Sending [not present] the preface, saying he thinks it is "un joli coup de trompette," asking her to tell René [Peter] that the letter to Valette is unnecessary: the manuscript has been received by a committee of five, of whom four are personal friends of Pierre [Louÿs's]; and adding that "je ne mets pas 'mes mains dans les votres' (V. Hugo, Correspondance)," etc.
